Some of us can procrastinate when it comes to Valentine's Day. Here are a few ideas for him or her if you haven't lined anything up yet:
Ideas for Him
- Call to see if you can pick up anything on the way home from work.
- Send a dozen roses: 11 red roses and 1 white one. The note: "You're the only one for me."
- On cold mornings warm up her car.
- Trace "I love you" on a stick of butter or margarine.
- When window shopping, secretly note what she likes, then return later to pick up that something special.
- Put a new piece of jewelry in her jewelry box and wait for her to notice it.
- Leave written clues that lead her to a restaurant where you are waiting for her.
- Give her your jacket when she is chilly.
- Always pull out her chair at dinner.
- Get tickets for an event and keep it a secret until the day arrives.
- Hide a greeting card under her pillow.
- Slip a little love note into her wallet.
- Serve breakfast in bed using your finest china and crystal.
- While you are both out, have a friend deliver a gourmet dinner to your home.
- Place a rose under the car's windshield wiper.
- Take a hot air balloon ride.
- Plan a three-day weekend together.
- Put a Starbucks’ gift card on the front seat of her car.
- Mail her a greeting card when you are away on a business trip.
- Plan an evening for watching your wedding video.
- Plan a trip to revisit your honeymoon destination.
- Call her during the day just to let her know you are thinking about her.
- Spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon doing an activity she enjoys (i.e. a museum or concert, even if you do not. No complaining!).
- Buy her a beautiful piece of lingerie with a note about how beautiful she will look or how you can’t wait to see her wear it.
- Go out for coffee and make a “dream” list together. Talk about what you would like to do as a couple in the next year or even five years.
Ideas for Her
- Avoid the crowds at restaurants and pick up your favorite dinner to go.
- Consider a change of venue and dine outside in the back yard, on the deck, or on the porch.
- Make a date to go to the gym together (and be sure to praise his physique and stamina during the workout)!
- Leave a loving voicemail on his cell phone, which he can listen to throughout the day.
- Create a collection of Valentine coupons that your husband can redeem throughout the year.
- Give him an unsolicited back rub and let nature take its course.
- Prepare his favorite home-cooked meal (plus dessert)!
- Give him an afternoon of uninterrupted time for him to watch sports.
- Pick him up from work and whisk him away to an action movie he’s been waiting to see. No chick flics, please!
- Are your children young? Put the kids to bed and then the two of you can dine alone.
- Are your kids older? Leave them at home and take your dinner and mood music on the road. Find a park and cuddle up in a blanket in the back seat. Dine at your leisure. You can even make it dinner and a movie by taking along your laptop or your portable DVD player and a romantic movie. Warning: You will know you have been parked too long if the windows steam up!
- Get tickets for him and a buddy to go to his favorite sporting event. Don’t forget to include a parking pass.
- Secretly place a romantic note in his briefcase or car with a promise for alone time when he gets home.
- Get him a wristwatch. Inscribe it with, “I always have time for you”.
- Remove all the paper strips (that say “Kisses” on them) from a couple hundred Hershey’s Kisses. Wrap them up and give him a note saying that he can redeem each flag for a kiss.
- Write “I love you” on the bathroom mirror with a piece of soap.
- Unplug the T.V. Put a note on the screen saying, “Turn me on instead”.
- Send him a letter sealed with kiss. (Use your reddest lipstick.)
- When you’re out together in public, wink at your husband from across the room.
- Call him at work just to say, “I love you”. Don’t ask him to pick up the kids or milk or anything else.
- Let him sleep late on Saturday morning and wake him up with breakfast in bed.
- Schedule a mystery date on his calendar and wait for him to notice.
- Place a red rose with a note in his gym bag to help motivate his workout.
- Plan to spend a Saturday together and let him plan all the activities. (No complaining.)
- Give him a gift card to his favorite “fun” store (i.e. sports, fishing, etc.).
